Registrations, Testing & Ranch Records

The records behind our breeding decisions—and the limits of every credential

What Our Records Are Designed to Show

Registrations, pedigrees, genetic tests, performance observations, and health records help buyers ask better questions. None of them replaces evaluating the whole animal. We use records to support decisions about structure, function, carcass merit, tenderness traits, reproduction, and long-term suitability.

Important: This page describes our recordkeeping standard without inventing a certification or membership. Current documents for a specific animal should be verified at the time of sale.

Breed Registrations and Pedigrees

Registered Dexter cattle, Kunekune pigs, and Nigerian Dwarf goats can have pedigrees that document identity and ancestry through the applicable breed organization. Registration confirms recorded lineage; it does not guarantee sound structure, fertility, temperament, productivity, or breeding quality.

Genetic and Carcass-Trait Testing

We use available genetic tools to add information about economically useful traits, including carcass merit and tenderness in cattle and pigs. A DNA result predicts or identifies specific traits; it cannot measure every part of performance, management, meat quality, or breeding value.

Structure, Performance and Health Records

Feet, legs, topline, body capacity, bite, teat quality, reproductive history, growth, mothering ability, disposition, and health observations all matter. Animals that look impressive on paper can still be unsuitable if their structure or performance does not support a productive pasture life.

Request Current Documentation

Available records vary by species, age, test status, and sale offering. Ask what documentation accompanies the animal before placing a deposit. Explore the Kunekune Genetics and Breeding Guide, review our available breeding stock, or request records for a listed animal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does registration mean an animal is breeding quality?

No. Registration documents ancestry. Breeding quality also depends on structure, health, temperament, fertility, performance, and the buyer’s goals.

What kinds of genetic testing do you use?

Testing varies by species and animal, but may include tools relevant to carcass merit, tenderness, parentage, color, disease risk, or other selection goals.

Can buyers see test results and pedigrees?

When records are available for a listed animal, buyers may ask to review the relevant documents before purchase.

Do tests guarantee a particular outcome?

No. Tests add information, but environment, management, interacting genes, structure, health, and chance still influence the final outcome.
