Mark ancestors appearing on both sides or multiple times within one side. Note how many generations back they occur and whether the repetition is intentional. Repeated names influence planned-litter COI and may concentrate both useful and harmful family traits.
A recognizable name may be repeated because of real performance, popularity, limited options, or simple marketing. Investigate the reason.
Ask about mature size, feet, movement, fertility, litter size, mothering, temperament, longevity, growth, carcass results, defects, and the consistency of close relatives. Photos of a famous ancestor are less valuable than honest records from many mature descendants.
Compare the pedigree with the actual pig. If the animal does not express the qualities claimed for the family, the paper does not override reality.
Before purchasing, identify realistic mates and calculate the planned relationship. Consider whether retained offspring will still have viable future pairings and whether the pedigree adds useful diversity to the local population.
